Be picky with your produce

If going completely organic is not an option for you, you should continue reading this.....

Do you want to reduce your exposure to harmful pesticides by almost 90%? You can if you choose your produce properly.

Analysts at the non-profit Environmental Working Group (EWG) have developed a list of 43 fruits and vegetables that are ranked according to their pesticide load (from highest to lowest). This is based on the results of nearly 43,000 tests for pesticides on produce collected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. FDA between 2000 and 2004.

They have shown that by avoiding the top twelve most contaminated fruits and vegetables (or buying those organic), people can lower their pesticide exposure by almost 90%!
-Eating the 12 most contaminated on the list will expose a person to some 15 pesticides per day, on average.
-Eating the 12 least contaminated ones will expose them to less than 2 pesticides per day.

So here are the top six to AVOID (or buy organic):
-peaches,
-apples,
- sweet bell peppers,
-celery,
-nectarines
- strawberries.
And the six BEST choices are:
-onions,
-avocado,
-frozen sweet corn,
- pineapples,
- mango and

You can make healthier choices not only by eating a well balanced diet, but also by buying organic when possible to reduce exposure to potentially harmful pesticides.
